Jonathan Mannion is one of the leading visual voices in the hip-hop game. He is the man behind the lens of some of rap’s most iconic album covers. During an interview with Hot 97, the photographer chats with Ebro and Laura Stylez about his historic career and album covers including Jay Z's Reasonable Doubt, Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP and DMX's Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.

"I never specifically looked at doing the album covers specifically," said Mannion. "That was the panicle of what I wanted because it attaches to the music forever."

The photographer who has also shot Jay Z’s covers for In My Lifetime Vol. 1 and 2, Dynasty and The Best of Both Worlds said, “You look back at a Coltrane album or Miles Davis, there’s an image associated with that, that’s going to last forever. I wanted to be synonymous with the music and make the visual’s fit and that was always the aim, the definitive photo of that person.”

In addition to talking about covers the photographer spoke on his new collection with T.I.’s clothing line Akoo.
