Lil Nas X continues his history-making ways.

On Monday (July 29), Billboard announced that the Georgia rapper's "Old Town Road" has officially broken the Billboard Hot 100 record for most weeks spent at No. 1 on the chart after it landed atop the chart for the 17th time. Lil Nas X tied the Billboard record last week, but now, he's officially moved past Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber ("Despacito," 2017) and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men ( "One Sweet Day," 1996) to take sole hold on the Billboard Hot 100 record.

Nas X first made his way onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart when "Old Town Road" debuted at No. 83 back in March. In April he reached the No. 1 spot. His reign atop the Hot 100 chart has been powered by a healthy diet of remixes, the first of which featured country star Billy Ray Cyrus. Shortly thereafter, Nas X unloaded a Diplo remix of the original remix. Weeks later, Lil Nas X let loose his Young Thug and Mason Ramsey-assisted remix of the song. Last week, he tapped BTS' RM for the latest remix of the track.

Lil Nas X's rise to pop culture ubiquity has been the most rapid and unexpected in all of 2019—especially when you consider that the idea of a music career wasn't really in the picture into a little while ago. Speaking to XXL about the song back in April, Nas X explained that music came about after his Nicki Minaj-dedicated Twitter account got suspended.

"Music literally came along after that account got suspended, like two, three, two years ago maybe," Nas X said at the time. "When I started my new account, it was more authentically me just being me, which is how I used that to my advantage to blow up. The music came along, and at first, I didn't incorporate my online personality with music. I was just trying to be me online, but musically, [I was] just whatever I thought people wanted to hear from me. Later on, I just started to do whatever felt right."

Congrats to Lil Nas X, and here's to more wins throughout the rest of his career.
