The hip-hop community has been shaken Wednesday morning (Sept. 21) at the news of Shawty Lo's passing. The Atlanta rapper was involved in a fatal car crash early in the morning, and rappers and DJs are expressing their condolences via social media, many remembering Lo with kind words and recollections.

While several posting to Twitter and Instagram hail from Atlanta like Lo, his passing has stirred many regardless of region. Future wrote, "legends never die...Shawty Lo Forever," while Redman recalled that "We always smoked heavy whn we in the ATL whicha dogs !" DJ Spinz meanwhile paid his respect, writing, "REAL OG! SHOWED ME NOTHING BUT LOVE FROM DAY 1. MAY THE ANGELS SURROUND YOU & YOUR FAMILY. TRIPLE SALUTE LEGEND!"

Lo, real name Carlos Walker, was 40 years old and is survived by 11 children. He is perhaps best known for the 2007 single “Dey Know” which peaked at no. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and as a founding member of D4L, who rose to prominence in 2005 with their hit “Laffy Taffy.” Lo last released “Put Some Respek on It” in late April, which was supposed to be featured on a forthcoming mixtape.

Lo’s manager confirmed the news on Twitter early Wednesday morning, writing, “My brother has passed he is no longer here but his spirit, his kind heart , and his music will live on Long live Shawty Lo King of Bankhead.”
