The 20th anniversary of Illmatic is keeping Nas pretty busy. In between festivals, a new label, music, promoting his documentary and starting a scholarship fund the Queens bred rapper found time to sit down with CBS’ Charlie Rose to discuss his impact on hip-hop.

Esco told Rose he changed the game of rap when he released his debut album. By being a new voice in 1994 that was his goal. In addition he discussed how he teamed up with One9 and Eric Parker to create Time Is Illmatic as well as how rap has evolved since he first picked up the mic.
