With a highlight reel that includes chart-topping tracks with Migos, Kanye West, Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, Drake and more, Metro Boomin is undoubtedly one of the hottest producers in the game right now. And as rap's most sought-after beat smith, the Atlanta talent has no plans to slow down in 2017. In fact, the 23-year-old wants to boss up more than ever by releasing his debut album under his very own label. The producer spoke with GQ recently (Feb. 22), confirming he's working on his solo album and talking about what else he's got planned for 2017.

Citing tastemakers like Pharrell and Kanye as rappers/producers who've started their own labels, Metro said his main focus is to build a legacy on his own terms.

"I'm starting my label up," Metro explained. "So of course I'm going to keep bringing new things to the table: new artists, new sounds, and new vibes for people to love and live with."

And just like Skateboard P and 'Ye, Metro isn't afraid to venture into the fashion world as apart of his business. "I'm always going to be heavy in producing," he stressed. "It's always going to come first. It never can't come first. But last year, 2016, I focused on DJing. Now that it's 2017, I'm gonna gravitate towards fashion. Like we just had with the Alexander Wang campaign and things like that."

Metro is of course referring to the Fall 2016 Alexander Wang campaign he participated in next to the likes of Big Sean, A$AP Ferg, Vince Staples and Tyga.

2016 marked Metro's biggest year to date. As the leader of Atlanta’s new school, Young Metro made a huge impact on Kanye West's The Life of Pablo album—coining a meme-worthy catchphrase in the process, helped propel 21 Savage with their joint tape Savage Mode, branched into pop with Tinashe's "Ride of Your Life" and scored the first No. 1 of his career with Migos' smash hit "Bad and Boujee." So in other words, for all intensive purposes, the rap world is at his feet right now—perfect timing to make boss moves.
