For all the noise Macklemore and Ryan Lewis made with their platinum 2012 album, The Heist, they got awfully quiet. After a year of touring and teasing out the singles from Heist--"Thrift Shop," "Same Love" and "Can't Hold Us" in particular were massive successes--the duo retreated to Washington to come up with something new. Though they've dropped two songs ("Growing Up (Sloane's Song)," which is dedicated to Macklemore's newborn daughter, and the Melle Mel-, Kool Moe Dee- and Grandmaster Caz-featuring "Downtown"), details on the new album have been scant. Perhaps this is a sign it's on the way: the duo has announced today (Oct. 12) that they'll be embarking on a tour at the top of next year.

An Evening With Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, as the bill has been dubbed, will kick off Jan. 9 and run for a month through the South and up to Washington, DC and Philadelphia, before ending with a short swing through the Midwest. (One could reasonably assume that the theater-sized venues and limited slate will serve as a prelude to a bigger tour later; while promoting The Heist, the Seattle natives hit just about every city's major arena.) Proceeds from the tour will be donated to the Equal Justice InitiativeYouth Speaks and the 30/30 Project, the latter being the HIV and AIDS charity Lewis set up with his mother, an activist who tested positive for the virus decades ago.
