Jay-Z’s Roc Nation will manage M.I.A.

“The nation just keeps on growing,” Roc Nation tweeted toward the electro-pop rapper on Thursday (May 24).

Rihanna, another huge artist managed by Roc Nation, welcomed M.I.A. to the team by tweeting, “Welcome home MIA” along with a picture of the two hanging out backstage at Jay and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne show in London.

The announcement comes as M.I.A. is prepping her fourth studio album, Matangi, a project that is scheduled to feature the rap likes of Missy Elliott and Azealia Banks.

This past February, M.I.A. came under media fire for flipping the middle finger during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show performance alongside Madonna and Nicki Minaj.

“Madonna knows the artist that M.I.A. is and it was her decision to take the risk with all of us,” Minaj would later tell Billboard. “We were kinda all firecrackers and she took that risk. She's done some crazy things becoming the icon that she is, so I think that's why she was able to forgive M.I.A.”

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Maybach Music Group and Philadelphia rhymeslinger, Meek Mill, had also signed to Roc Nation for management.

“Yeah, that’s the new deal I put together,” Meek told LifeandTimes about Roc Nation helping to steer his career. “Me coming up in this rap game, I was always an underground artist coming up by myself and making all of the moves by myself. And my manager – he’s just like me, we’ve been coming up in the streets by ourselves. So we just decided to partner up with Roc Nation and take things to another level.”

His MMG partner in rhyme, Wale, is also managed by Roc Nation, as are artists like Ester Dean, Melanie Fiona, Santigold and Shakira.—Mark Lelinwalla
