Lil Uzi Vert’s “New Patek” Goes Gold
Two months after its release, Lil Uzi Vert’s latest single, “New Patek,” has reached gold status according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The Dolan Beats-produced track earned its gold certification on Nov. 28. It’s one of the many songs the Philly rapper released this year while he continues to tinker with his highly-anticipated Eternal Atake album.
The song has also brought legal drama to Lil Uzi as well. In September, surviving members of a religious cult called Heaven’s Gate threatened legal action against the former XXL Freshman over the artwork for his “New Patek” single. The image features Uzi sticking his arm through a keyhole. Apparently, the keyhole resembles Heaven’s Gate official logo.
“Our attorneys are working with him on direct and clear infringement of trademarks, copyrights and use of logo,” Heaven's Gate reps told Page Six at the time. “We are also dealing with expressions of ‘Fair Use’ which is cited when this kind of image is displayed. The artist has to be careful to not make full use of the spirit and meaning of the Group while altering images of it to make it look like he isn’t infringing. We will see what can be sorted out. It is in the hands of attorneys."
Uzi himself nor his attorneys have addressed the legal matter publicly.
In the meantime, the 24-year-old former XXL Freshman is still working hard on his next album Eternal Atake. Last month, Uzi went on his Instagram page to give fans a status update on the project. Uzi posted an Instagram story that included a photo of two girls and a man standing on a street corner, along with the message, "If you waited this long, why not wait a little longer."
Uzi explained the meaning of the title back in July when he went on Twitter and tweeted, "Eternal Atake...Eternal means forever. Atake means 2 overtake."
Congrats to Lil Uzi Vert on his gold certification for "New Patek."
