Lauryn Hill has been a mystery in the years following the release of her debut album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. People magazine reports on the troubled singer in their new issue, currently on stands featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the cover.

"She writes music in the bathroom, on toilet paper, on the wall," said Rohan Marley, the father of Hill's five children. "She writes it in the mirror if the mirror smokes up. She writes constantly. This woman does not sleep."

The reporter, however, paints a different picture of Hill. The former Grammy Award winner is not a suburban mother who lives in New Jersey with her three boys, two daughters, and her mother, Valerie.

After a stalled Fugees reunion, that only saw the release of a warm-up single, "Take It Easy," Hill toured briefly before going back into seclusion.

One of her last public appearances was last summer during a show in Brooklyn, New York. The singer's makeup was caked on and she donned a afro wig; she was hours late to the concert, causing many in attendance to boo her and leave early.

A source at her label, Sony, told People the singer is still signed to the company as a recording artist, but is currently "on hiatus."---Anthony Thomas
