On Jan. 10 Atlanta rapper K Camp hit the SSUR store in West Hollywood, Calif. to host a listening party and BBQ in promotion for his One Way mixtape. In addition to family, friends and record label executives, Ty Doll $ign and Dreamville rapper Cozz were in attendance to support. Doors opened at 5 pm and the event started with causal conversations while DJ sourMILK of the L.A. Leakers provided music. Fans made their way outside to the back of the store for complimentary drinks and BBQ food.

The event was packed with well over 200 people in the crowd and fans lingering outside the store trying to get in. The energy in the room was dynamic and people were ready to party as soon as the Slum King arrived. Garrett Williams, Director of Urban Promotions for Interscope Records introduced the young artist. He spoke on the success of Camp in the past year and explained that Camp wanted to put out something for his supporters before his debut album.

“He came to us and said he wanted to put together something and a few days later brought us some songs,” said Williams.

Camp thanked everyone for coming and encouraged them to get a drink and grab food before he started playing his tracks. The first song he played was “Stack Of Ones,” a smooth cut with a chill beat that the ladies seemed to be into. He went on to play more songs like “Lil Bit” and “Money Talk” which got the crowd hype. Though he only played five out of the 10 tracks on the forthcoming project, he showed that he could prevail lyrically and produce more than just club bangers.

The mixtape will drop on MLK day, Jan. 19. This will be his first original project since his breakout In Due Time EP that featured hits like “Money Baby” “Blessing” and “Cut Her Off” the latter of which became the No. 1 Urban single in the US. —Kiki Ayers
