A number of hip-hop artists have come out in an effort to assist the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. There is perhaps no rapper who has posted himself at the forefront of the movement quite like Jon Connor. Connor is a Flint native and penned a song in late January to help raise awareness about the lethal circumstances his city is up against. On Wednesday night (Mar. 2), Connor performed "Fresh Water for Flint" for the first time, joined on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore by Keke Palmer.

Before performing the song, Connor spoke to the audience, saying, "Nightly Show, I go by the name Jon Connor. And I’m from a little bitty city called Flint and that's in Michigan for y’all that don’t know. And we going through a situation where there’s actually poison in the water and we’ve experienced death because of it. My job as an artist is to help put a face to what y’all read in the headlines. It’s to give a voice to the voiceless."

Jon Connor told XXL about the song back in January when he released the powerful single.

"The song is basically about the situation going on that nobody sees,” Connor said. “I lived in Flint up until two, three years ago, so being in California and seeing the way it’s being portrayed on the news, seeing the deterioration of my city, its all that frustration and emotion. I feel like I’m the voice of Flint, so I’m just trying to verbalize how all the natives feel.”
