Jada Pinkett Smith Admits She Should Have Waited Until Will Smith Was Divorced to Start Dating Him
During the first episode of Jada Pinkett Smith's new Facebook show, Red Table Talk, which was posted on May 7, the actress sat down with Will Smith's first wife, Sheree Fletcher, and revealed she began dating Smith while he was still married.
While Will and Jada have since celebrated their 20th anniversary, Pinkett Smith admits she should have "fell back" early in their relationship, saying, "He was 'div.' The 'orced hadn't happened yet." The actress added, "Here's the one thing I will say in hindsight, because I did not understand marriage, I did not understand divorce, I will say that I probably should have fell back."
Fortunately for Pinkett Smith and Fletcher, things have gotten better between the two but Fletcher admits it was rocky in the beginning. Fletcher recalled a time where she and the actress exchanged "fighting words" over the phone.
“I called back and happened to say, ‘Bitch, you living in the house I picked out!’ And you said, ‘It's my house now,’” Fletcher said.
But Pinkett Smith's comeback didn't fly with Smith and the actor scolded her for it. “His take was, ‘That is Trey's mother and that's just not your place,'" Pinkett Smith said.
Now, Pinkett Smith and Fletcher co-mother the "Get Lit" rapper's first son, Trey, and Fletcher is happy about it. "I'll tell you, on this side of things, my son could not have a better bonus mom," Fletcher said. "And he's got a great mother," Pinkett replied.
