Today, Sept. 23, is the birthday of famed producer, songwriter and rapper Jermaine Dupri, who now turns 46.

The So So Def mastermind has been the engine behind some of hip-hop's most memorable acts over the years. First coming into prominence in the music industry in 1990, Dupri formed the child rap duo Kriss Kross, discovered Da Brat and had a hand in projects from the likes of Destiny's Child to Lil Bow Wow to Lil Wayne. Under his own label, So So Def Recordings, which he started in 1993, JD navigated the careers of Xscape, Jagged Edge, Dem Franchise Boyz and more.

JD is also on his management mogul grind with a show on Lifetime called The Rap Game, where Dupri picks one budding rapper out of a pool of contestants to manage.

In 2018, Dupri commemorated So So Def's 25th anniversary with Jermaine Dupri Presents... So So Def 25, a compilation album comprised of all the label's biggest hits.

Happy Birthday, Jermaine Dupri!
