Today, March 9, is the 38th birthday of rapper Chingy.

Chingy was born Howard Bailey Jr. in Atlanta in 1980, but was raised in St. Louis.

The rapper was first taken under the wing of Ludacris and his label, Disturbing the Peace, in 2002. In 2003, Chingy burst onto the scene with the summer smash "Right Thurr" off his debut album, Jackpot.

"Right Thurr" was nearly an immediate hit, due to how catchy and unique it was for the time. The hook is also super memorable: "I like the way you do that right thurr/
Swing your hips when you're walking, let down your hurr/I like the way you do that right thurr/Lick your lips when you're talking, that make me sturr." The song still brings back memories of yesteryear, and adds an earnest humor to a song about approaching women. "I like the way you look in them pants, see ya fine/Lil momma a quarter piece, she far from a dime," he says, slyly. "The type of girl that'll getcha' up and go make you grind/I'm thinking about snatching her up, dirty, making her mine."

He followed up Jackpot with his second album, Powerballin' in 2004 and Hood Star in 2006. Though he was never able to duplicate his musical success of his debut, Chingy has been back in the news this past year for his outspoken point of views on politics and the music industry.

Happy birthday, Chingy!
