Flavor Flav has avoided a jail sentence over a failure to pay child support.

According to the New York Daily News, the eccentric clock-wearing rapper of Public Enemy avoided jail time Tuesday (June 19) in Albany by paying $25,000 in back child support to the mother of three of his children. He was facing a 180-day jail sentence.

Flav also agreed to pay an additional $1,200 a month to Mary Parker of Albany to help further reduce his child support debt of $111,186.

Although Flav will forever be known as the clock-wearing hypeman for Public Enemy—responsible for hits like “Fight the Power” and “911 Is a Joke”—he also became synonymous for being a reality television star in his latter years.

He gained more mainstream notoriety, starring in VH1’s Flavor of Love, where several buxom beauties strived to be the New York native’s main girl and Strange Love, which documented his odd relationship with Brigitte Nielsen.

Flav spoke about the former show in a previous interview with XXL.

“I don’t like hurting people’s feelings,” Flav said. “You know it’s bad karma when you hurt people’s feelings. I had to be careful of the girls’ feelings that were really, really, really there for me. The ones that I knew were not there for me were the ones that I kept… [And] If anybody got it in, your boy Flavor Flav got it in.”—Jakinder Singh
