Donald Glover may soon stop rapping as Childish Gambino. The actor turned rapper appeared on The Today Show for a promo run about his up-coming movie, The Lazarus Effect, and unveiled that he's over the name and plans to move on.

"I guess Childish Gambino is like a period of my art time, and I want to have periods in my life, so I feel like Childish Gambino is a period that should come to a close," he said. "I like endings." The statement comes as a complete shock and is sure to have a major impact on the Grammy-nominated rapper’s fan-base.

Although Glover wasn't clear on if this means that he will stop rapping as CG for good, he did say he wants to continue making music. “I always want to do music and I love music. I’m already putting out projects quietly everywhere and I want to produce,” he says.

Just last month, the rapper stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform his latest release, “Sober.” The song is off his latest project STN MTN/Kauai. Gambino is also gearing up for this year’s Bonnaroo Festival, along with Kendrick Lamar and many more. Earlier this month on National Signing Day—the 24-hour period in which the nation’s top football recruits announce where they have committed to play this fall—coveted five-star recruit Soso Jamabo committed UCLA by tweeting out the news complete with a quote from  “You See Me,” a cut off of Gambino’s 2012 album CAMP.
