Dom Kennedy Shares His Love for DMX, Old-School Cars and Yogurt in His ABCs
It’s been 11 years since rap veteran Dom Kennedy stepped onto the scene with his debut project, 25th Hour. Upon listening to the Leimert Park, Calif. native's vast catalog, you’ll quickly discover his loyalty lies in baseball, old-school automobiles and his long-standing independent imprint, Other People’s Money. However, you might be surprised to learn that he shares a penchant for accounting and pineapple-flavored yogurt too in his version of XXL's ABCs.
“If I don’t eat nothin’ else, I’ma get some yogurt in the morning if my stomach hurt," Dom says. "I try to stay with the fly little yogurt with the pineapples; that’s my favorite.”
For his ABCs, the MC spoke on everything from his extensive car collection—he spent $50,000 a piece on two Chevrolet Impalas—to the reason he decided to remain an underground artist throughout his career.
”My whole goal is to be effective in the mainstream, but still always, you know, be as fly as any newcomer," he explains for the letter U. "Any underground sound we gotta be on top of it.”
Dom, who gifted fans with his latest album, Volume Two, in October, also shared his love for East Coast hip-hop. For the letter X, he chose a rowdy 1990's legend that inspired him in his younger years
"When I was coming up and I was a young dude out there just going to concerts, you know what I mean, DMX had a huge impact," Dom reveals.
Towards the end of 2018, Dom Kennedy embarked on a 26-city nationwide tour with Jay 305, Cozz and Warm Brew. He also appeared on 24hrs' debut album, Houses on the Hill, lending verses on "7am in Beverly" and "Leave LA" with Ty Dolla $ign. After such a prosperous 2018, the "Double Up" rapper is planning to come back in 2019 "stronger than ever" with some new material, so make sure you're on the lookout.
