DaniLeigh’s Pitch for 2019 XXL Freshman

Before the 2019 XXL Freshman class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th Spot voting will launch on March 25, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2019 XXL Freshman cover.

DaniLeigh, 23, was destined to be in the entertainment industry in one way or another and she’s been making the most of every opportunity. Initially cutting her teeth as a dancer, the Miami native’s family moved to Los Angeles when she was still a pre-teen in order to facilitate her dream. A move that proved to b ae life-changing and career-altering one as Dani blossomed into an exceptional recording artist as well. She first got her name out by performing covers of popular tracks and eventually fell under the tutelage of pop legend Prince and directed the singer’s “Breakfast Can Wait” video at the age of 18.

Following the release of singles like “D.O.S.E." and “Only Wun,” Def Jam scooped her up in early 2017. She set things off on the imprint with the release of her 2017 major label debut, Summer With Friends. She had a viral moment last summer when her “In My Feelings” dance challenge video was viewed over 10 million times. In late 2018, she released the R&B and rap-infused, 13-track follow-up The Plan with features from Lil Baby, YBN Nahmir, Lil Yachty and YG. In addition to having been on tour with J. Cole and Teyana Taylor, Dani recently wrapped her first headlining tour in February.
