DaBaby Wins Best New Hip Hop Artist at 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards
DaBaby collects a big W.
On Tuesday night (Oct. 8), fans found out that the 2019 XXL Freshman won the Best New Hip-Hop Artist trophy during the first telecast of the 2019 BET Hip-Hop Awards, which took place at Atlanta's Cobb Energy Center this past Saturday. Other nominees included Lil Nas X, Blueface, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch and YBN Cordae. Needless to say, those are some artists that have also made a lot of noise this year.
In his acceptance speech for the award, DaBaby gave thanks to his team for their support.
"God is great," he began. "Shout out to everybody on my team, everybody that hold it down. Shout out to my beautiful momma, see what I'm saying. For always telling me I'm so handsome, that's why I feel like I'm the prettiest...I appreciate y'all, shoutout to all the other contestants, y'all did your thing
This win was announced after DaBaby took the stage to perform "Intro" and "Baby Sitter" in front of a hyped crowd. It serves as an addition to a long streak of positive moments for the Charlotte, N.C. artist.
For the 27-year-old, it's also a sign that he's living up to the standards he's set for himself. Back in July, DaBaby told XXL that he was ready to show and prove to the world what he's made of.
"Now that I'm a XXL Freshman, you know, I feel like that sets high standards for me, and I feel like I have to deliver. I plan to exceed all expectations," he said at the time.
Indeed. The North Carolina native recently nabbed his first No. 1 album with Kirk, his second album that he dropped this year following his March-released album, Baby on Baby.
Salute to DaBaby.
