Cardi B and Meek Mill Say Forbes’ Highest-Paid Rapper Numbers Are Way Off
On Thursday (Sept. 19), Forbes shared their 2019 Highest-Paid Hip-Hop Acts list. Cardi came in at No. 13 with $28 million and Meek at No. 15 with $21 million. Both say those numbers aren't accurate.
"Where do Forbes be getting they numbers from cause they way off?" Cardi asked on shortly after the list was released on Thursday morning.
"The Forbes got our accounts fucked up lol ...." Meek tweeted soon after.
According to Forbes, their numbers are based on the artist's pretax income from June 2018 to June 2019 "before deducting fees for agents, managers and lawyers; figures are based on data from Nielsen Music, Pollstar, Bandsintown and interviews with experts, handlers and some of the stars themselves."
Kanye topped this year's list with a reported $150 million, beating out Jay-Z (who landed at number two with $81 million) for the very first time. Forbes cited the sales of his Yeezy sneakers with Adidas as the bulk of his income.
The full top 5 was rounded out by Drake at No. 3 with $75 million, Travis Scott at No. 4 with $58 million and Eminem at No. 5 with $50 million. Elsewhere, Nicki Minaj was the first woman on the list at No.12 with $29 million—one notch above Cardi. Both ladies saw a bulk of their income come from live shows.
