Troubled R&B singer Amy Winehouse was found dead on Saturday morning (July 23), in her London apartment.

According to TMZ, police were called to the British songstress’s home shortly before 4 a.m. She was only 27 years old.

Following the news, many people from the hip-hop world took to Twitter to express their condolences. Big Boi wrote: “Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and now AmyWinehouse. All died aged 27. RIP to you all (sic).”

Q-Tip added: “The last time I spoke 2 amy I told her let her light shine more (sic).”

Producer Hi-Tek also chimed in, “R.I.P. AMY WINEHOUSE! never got to meet u but I appreciated the shout out u gave me on ur album insert..one love (sic)!”

Former hip-hop A&R Dante Ross offered these kind words: “I hope Amy Winehouse finds the peace she always wanted and deserved in her after life fly with the angels Amy u sang like one #RestInPower”

Ms. Winehouse had worked with several people in the rap industry during her short career, collaborating with Ghostface Killah on 2006’s “You Know I’m No Good” as well as rap producers Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson.

"RIP my baby SiS Cherry Winehouse," Remi said on Twitter. "Love ya always."

Amy publicly struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and recently pulled out of a European comeback tour. As of press time the cause of her death is unknown. —XXL Staff
