Yasiin Bey Announces Final U.S. Shows

Yasiin Bey got great news earlier today (Nov. 22) when he was finally allowed to leave South Africa. The "Mathematics" rapper already has big plans for his homecoming as he's announced his final performances in the United States.

The former Mos Def has teamed up with the Apollo Theater and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for his swan song, which will take place over the course of four shows. Each event will see Bey performing songs from a different album, along with a mix of new material. Surprise guests are also being advertised, so attendees should expect a few big names to join Bey.

“We’re so excited to collaborate with the Kennedy Center on what will be a milestone moment in not only hip-hop history but also in popular culture,” Apollo Theater executive producer Kamilah Forbes said in a statement.

Bey originally announced his retirement in January and reiterated it just last month. Before he was cleared to leave South Africa, the veteran MC planned to wrap up his career with shows in Cape Town.

“I’m retiring this year for real,” he said in October. “This week, with the seventeenth anniversary of Black on Both Sides being released, I’m grateful to have had the career that I’ve been able to enjoy.”

Thankfully for Bey and his fans, the legendary rapper will get to finish his career at home. Check out the dates for the Black Star member's last shows below.
