2016: A T.I. concert at New York City's Irving Plaza turned fatal on May 25, 2016, when a shooting in the venue's VIP area resulted in four major injuries and one death.

It was early in the performance schedule around 10:30 p.m. when shots rang out from the upstairs balcony area of Irving Plaza. As news of the story began to develop, XXL learned that Irving Plaza performed minimal security checks on people entering the venue before the show started. Later that evening, NYPD confirmed that one person had been killed in the chaos. Out of the injured, Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave was shot in the leg and, as fans would soon learn, his friend and bodyguard, Ronald "Banga" McPhatter, was the one fatality.

One day after the shooting, surveillance footage showing Troy Ave shooting a gun in the venue was released and authorities arrested Troy for attempted murder. As Troy's legal battle was just beginning, his relationship with members of his BSB Records crew was quickly coming to an end. Manager Hovain and fellow rapper Young Lito distanced themselves from the rapper and a year later, Lito and Troy continued to taking shots at each other on records.

Banga's family has since blamed Troy for the death of their loved one and Troy is in the process of suing Live Nation for lack of security that night, all while he fights for his own freedom in an attempted murder case.

To commemorate the first anniversary of this tragic event, Troy released a music video for his song "I Ain't Mad At Cha" almost exactly a year later.

“On the eve of the one-year anniversary of one of the worst days of my life that started off a series of events and revealed the true colors of people to me I give y’all this video," stated Troy when dropping the visual.

In July of 2017 podcast personality Taxstone was indicted for second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Banga. He'd been arrested for weapons charges in January of that year as rumors that he was the responsible for Banga's death began to circulate.
