While 2018 saw a resurgence in rappers finding inspiration from the aesthetics of rock ’n roll, one veteran rock star is not necessarily pleased with how Travis Scott adapted a certain aspect of the set design on the Astroworld Tour.

In a series of posts shared on Instagram on Wednesday (Nov. 28), Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has called out Travis Scott, accusing the rapper of ripping off Lee's set design.

“Just found out this fucking idiot @travisscott or someone on his team ripped off the 360 AND The Crüecifly! WTF!! Get an original idea bro...(swipe to see who did this shit first) BRB there’s more …” Lee wrote on Instagram, sharing video featuring both Scott’s Astroworld set and one from Motley Crue’s The Final Tour performance.

Both feature a solo roller coaster loop that is interactive for the performer, with Lee’s rendition even being tailored so that he could play drums while taking a ride. Scott's design also has an interactive component, allowing fans to ride on a Ferris wheel.

In a second post, Lee points out how in addition to Scott’s amusement park-inspired set design not only included one element that was very similar to his but two.

“ANNNNND not one rip off but TWO,” he continued. “DOPE. I get copying is a form of flattery, but this is just straight ripping off my shit. What do you guys think???”

While Scott himself has not yet responded, there’s a chance this could be the first time he caught wind of the set similarities or perhaps he was hoping to draw inspiration from the reputed rock group. Either way, the similarities are definitely there.
