Kodak Black is a leader of hip-hop's new school. In the span of three years, the Pompano Beach, Fla., native has become one of rap's more prolific and popular newcomers, building his fanbase with mixtapes like Institution, Lil B.I.G. Pac and Project Baby 2. While the 2016 XXL Freshman has proved his hit-making ability with his gold-certified album Painting Pictures, and tracks like "No Flockin," "Tunnel Vision" and "Roll in Peace" all reaching platinum status, his rise to fame has not come without stumbles. A product of the juvenile detention system, Kodak has been in the news as much for his runaway musical success as his alleged criminal activity.

As Kodak Black's hit single "Skrt" was taking off and garnering cosigns from stars like Drake, his legal troubles began to pile up. An October 2015 robbery and kidnapping marked the first in a string of incidents that have left him incarcerated for months at a time and unable to fully capitalize on his popularity. He's since been tangled up in charges ranging from drug and firearm possession to sexual assault. However, in spite of his various stints in jail, Kodak Black has managed to maintain his position in the game and continue to service his fans, making him one of the more intriguing personalities and voices in all of rap.

In light of his well-documented run-ins with the law, XXL compiles a timeline of Kodak Black's legal battles, dating back to the genesis of his career.
