Before the 2019 XXL Freshman class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th Spot voting will launch on March 25, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2019 XXL Freshman cover.

New Jersey rapper Skinnyfromthe9’s name is starting to hold weight. Representing Somerville, N.J. by way of Hialeah, Fla., the 23-year-old rapper got his start on SoundCloud in 2016, eventually putting out the noteworthy collabs “Family Rich” featuring Jay Critch and “Count It” featuring Stitches. It was his November 2017 track “Love Blast” that really took off, raking in over 8 million streams on SoundCloud. In January 2018, he joined Fetty Wap's FMF Tour, further increasing his popularity.

The Garden State rhymer caught the attention of music industry veteran L.A. Reid who signed Skinny to his Hitco Entertainment imprint in July 2018. On the heels of some legal issues, he put out his debut project, It’s an Evil World, last November, which features guest appearances from former XXL Freshmen Fetty Wap, PnB Rock and Kap G. With a joint project with Fetty on the horizon and a new solo project, The Comeback Kid, on the way, Skinny’s staying busy this year.
