Remy Ma Fights for Feminism in New Freestyle
Remy Ma set the hip-hop world on fire with her Nicki Minaj diss track "Shether." But now, the focus of Remy's venomous bars is gender inequality. The veteran MC stopped by the offices of Marie Claire magazine to spit a feminist freestyle that addresses women's issues.
The first half of the freestyle sees Remy taking down men's rights activists. She follows that up by attacking the glass ceiling in second series of bars.
"I'm not pressed for you to hold the door/I'm not stressed for you to marry me/I'm independent/I want equal, or perhaps, even a larger salary/Women earn 78 cents for every dollar of their male counterparts/It's crazy my back account is determined by my body parts/Breasts affect checks/Ass affects cash/He has a penis, I have a vagina/So, the salary is automatically higher/So, don't tell me that lie about glass ceiling not being true/Cause Hillary already cracked it, next time we're breaking through," Remy raps.
Remy's words are something everyone can get behind, but her "Shether" diss track was as divisive as humanly possible. The Bronx native created battle lines with the record, gaining the support of rappers like Lil' Kim and Azealia Banks as well as Nicki's ex-boyfriend Safaree Samuels. Meanwhile, Nicki received allegiance from The Game. The Compton rhymer said he would "fuck up" anyone who disrespected Nicki.
