One quick look at the nominations for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards is all it takes to realize that the worlds of rap, TV and movies are more connected now than they've ever been. This year, Childish Gambino's role as a producer and lead in Atlanta earned him two nominations--Best Television Series in the Musical or Comedy category and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, also in the Musical or Comedy category. Pharrell Williams, whose exploits as a rapper-producer-singer have made him a music industry legend, was nominated for Best Original Score for a Motion Picture after helping construct the score for Hidden Figures.

Rappers are putting in major work on the big screen and on prime time TV, and that isn't exactly new. Although rap was his first conquest, Will Smith dominated Hollywood and the realm of TV in the years after his albums with DJ Jazzy Jeff, only to conquer the rap game once again in the late 1990s. From the outset of his acting career, it was clear that he was going to be a force, and he lived up to the expectations by earning five Golden Globe nominations between 1993 and 2016. Queen Latifah is another prominent rapper who's left their mark at the Golden Globes, taking home the trophy for Best Actress in a Mini-series or Motion Picture for TV for her role in Life Support. She was also nominated on two other occasions.

Today, we take a look at some other rap industry luminaries that have earned nominations, and in some cases, even victories at the Golden Globes. You can peep the gallery for yourself up top.
