In December of last year, Kendrick Lamar was the final musical guest on The Colbert Report, performing an untitled song that was created a day before he appeared on that show. Last night (Sept. 9), Stephen Colbert brought out K. Dot to be the first musical guest of his new home The Late Show on CBS. With fresh cornrows, the former XXL Freshman put on a stirring show, performing cuts off his critically acclaimed album To Pimp a Butterfly. He did a four-song medley of "Wesley's Theory," "Momma," "King Kunta" and "u." By the end of the performance the crowd was roaring on their feet. Watch the performance above.

Since the release of Kendrick's To Pimp a Butterfly, the West Coast MC has been receiving a ton of praise. Prince recently spoke about how much he enjoys K. Dot’s latest album. “He just has something he has to say,” said the superstar artist. “It’s pure. And with Thundercat on the album? Come on. You’re not taking ‘Alright’ off my playlist!” Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” has become a rallying cry for young people across the country and now the song is inspiring higher learning. Philadelphia collective OogeeWoogee was so inspired by Kendrick that they decided to create the inaugural “Be Alright” College Scholarship, which awarded $1500 to a student from High Tech High.
