DJ Mustard has been gaining a lot of popularity lately. On top of a slew of radio hits, the producer hit the stage last night (Aug. 24) as the house DJ for the 2014 VMAs. Before mixing up a few tracks, MTV News caught up with L.A. native on the red carpet to talk about what to expect and found out some interesting news.

According to Mustard, Jay Z sent him an email this week asking for a few dope beats. This time he didn't accidentally hang up on Hov. He claims the rapper said to him,  “send me some beats, you ready for the big leagues now.”

Mustard is unsure of where those beats might end up but said he “I just sent him the stuff that I think he might like.”

As for right now Mustard is working on Lil Wayne’s upcoming album, Tha Carter V. Mustard—who released 10 Summers last week—hopes to work with artists such as Calvin Harris and Sam Smith in the future.
