New York Mets Centerfielder, Lastings Milledge, Slammed for Dirty Rap Song

New York Mets centerfielder, Lastings Milledge, has come under fire from the Mets organization and the media for a vulgar rap song he recorded with an artist on his record label. The song, “Bend Ya Knees,” is a collaboration with Manny D, an artist signed to Milledge’s record label, Soulja Boi Records. Throughout the song, the 22-year-old athlete uses the “N” word and claims to have a “top-notch ho” and “a different bitch for every night.” The song can be heard on www.souljaboirecords.com. In response, the Mets released a statement yesterday condemning the track and its lyrical content. “We disapprove of the content, language and message of this recording, which does not represent the views of the New York Mets.” Manny D, however, feels the controversy is unwarranted. “Do I feel like he should watch what he says because he’s in the public eye? Yeah, but everything he’s doing is positive,” Manny D told the New York Daily News. “He’s not out there shooting people or shooting up dope. How can you fault somebody for something they say?” Milledge did not respond directly to the firestorm he created, but did tell the Daily News, “I’m only talking about baseball right now. I just want to rehab and get back (to New York).” Currently, Milledge is playing for the Mets minor league, Triple-A New Orleans team. According to the Daily News, this isn’t the first controversial incident the Florida native has been involved in. In 2003, he was expelled from Northside Christian School for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl. Milledge allegedly agreed to enrolled in a juvenile arbitration program to avoid jail time. But after the Mets drafted him in 2003, the Daily News reported Milledge was allegedly accused of having consensual sex with 12 and 13-year-old girls. He was subsequently expelled from Northside Christian School.
