Ne-Yo on Game: “I Don’t Feel Like I Ripped Off The Game’s Album”

One can call it a case of Code R.E.D.

R&B star, Ne-Yo, recently told TMZ that he’s not guilty of jacking Game’s album title, The R.E.D. Album, for his own upcoming LP, despite the fact that the rapper had an album title of the same name last year.

"No ... I don't feel like I ripped off The Game's album," Ne-Yo told the celebrity news website at LAX airport. "Until The Game comes up to me and says he has a problem with it, I don't care what people think."

Last month, XXLMag.com asked Game if he had a problem with Ne-Yo naming his upcoming LP, The R.E.D. Album, and the Compton MC sounded like although he doesn’t quite understand it, he seemingly accepts it.

“I dont know what that’s about, but I’ve always known Ne-Yo to be a cool dude, so I’m pretty sure he got his reasoning,” Game told XXLMag.com. “More power to the lil’ homie.”

Ne-Yo’s R.E.D. acronym stands for “Realizing Every Dream,” in comparison to the Game’s definition, which broke down to rededicated. Perhaps Game seems cool with Ne-Yo borrowing the title, considering that the R&B crooner blessed the hook on Game’s “Camera Phone” single off his 2008 LAX album, the two having even appeared in a video together for the record.

Ne-Yo hopes to enjoy the same kind of debut that Game had, as the rhymeslinger’s R.E.D. Album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Ne-Yo also pointed to the fact that he’s not the first—and probably won’t be the last—to borrow an album title from another artist, reminding TMZ that Jay-Z named his album The Blueprint years after KRS-One had an LP of the same name.—Mark Lelinwalla
