Maino and Lil Kim Salute The Notorious B.I.G. With “I Did It for Brooklyn”

Nineteen years after the death of Brooklyn's most extraordinary rapper the Notorious B.I.G, Brooklyn is still spreading love. To mark the anniversary of Biggie Smalls' 1997 death, Brooklynite MC's Maino and Lil Kim team up to drop the new banger "I Did It For Brooklyn" today (Mar. 9). The track artwork strategically features both a photo of Biggie and the Brooklyn Bridge in shadowy overlay as his two predecessors trade bars for their hometown.

Over the vicious Don Corleon and Mad Cheetah-produced beat, Maino shows love to the hood that raised him, shouting out the infamous Marcy Projects and other landmarks only locals would appreciate.

"Did it for Gates Ave./Did it for Nostrand/Hope out the white Lamb/Leave it on Fulton/Shout out to Fort Greene/What up to Crown Heights/My bitch went to Barneys/killed her with one swipe."

Not to be outdone, Kim comes out swinging on the second verse to remind the young guns that B.I.G., the rapper who discovered her back in 1994, is the reason for much of Brooklyn's hip-hop notoriety.

"Kim come through in that pink mink/Pink pussy, pink hair/He said my ass like a five-star/best around, he want eat that/First bitch in that GT/I did it for Brooklyn/Big named me Queen Bee/he did it for Brooklyn."

Kim, who's taken a break from the spotlight in recent years, has been coming back with a vengeance lately, and the Queen Bee and Brooklyn's boy have already proven to be an even match on the mic. Just last month, the two collaborated on the remix to the viral hit "Panda," the signature song from Brooklyn newcomer Desiigner. Even on that, Lil Kim's lyricism has been just as sharp as ever. “I got killers in Belize/I got n—as in the league/NBA, NHL, MLB/ Watch how I blow off the Hennessy."

Lil Kim's fans will be happy to hear yet another banger from the Bed-Stuy spitter as her main focus has been getting back to the music following negative press over some unflattering candid photos.
