Mac Miller’s Manager Pens Heartfelt Op-Ed in Memory of Late Rapper
It has been just over three months since we lost Mac Miller, and his family, friends and fans have continually used their own unique ways to pay tribute to the late rapper have. Today, Dec. 17, Mac's longtime manager Christian Clancy became the latest to do so when he remembered the late rapper with a heartfelt op-ed published by The Guardian.
In the piece, Clancy notes the late rapper's musical versatility and his genuine passion for music before recalling their final encounter.
"I last saw him two days before he died," Clancy recalled. He noted how happy Mac had been as of late—the happiest he'd seen him since they met six years prior in 2012, but he also was very aware of the the rapper's struggles.
"He knew the progress he had made, battling his internal dialogue," said Clancy. "It wasn’t easy, but he was doing it and feeling the rewards." He continued by many things that were in the works for Mac that he was looking forward to, including on his Swimming Tour, which he was set to embark on with Thundercat and J.I.D the month after his death.
Clancy also made some time to praise Mac Miller's character. "In a world dominated by ego, he led with the soul and lived by focusing on similarities rather than differences – that’s a lesson we all could use," Clancy said in closing. "I truly miss you, Malcolm."
Earlier this month, Mac Miller fans received bittersweet news that the late rapper earned his very first Grammy nomination. Swimming will go up against Cardi B's Invasion of Privacy, Nipsey Hussle's Victory Lap, Pusha T's Daytona and Travis Scott's Astroworld in the Best Rap Album category for the 2019 Grammys.
