We knew Lupita Nyong'o could act, but it might come as a surprise to some that she's got bars, as well. The 33-year-old took to Instagram on Sunday (Sept. 25) and freestyled over the Nas classic, "NY State of Mind."

To celebrate three million IG followers, Nyong'o (through her alter ago, Troublemaker) delivers a solid rap debut over the Esco instrumental. She spits, "Mexican born, Kenya running through my veins/Dark chocolate, plus I keep a sharp mane/Lancôme fresh-faced, looking tailor-made/Disney on the books, so you know I stay paid."

Nyong'o flexes throughout the brief, black-and-white clip, rapping about her various acting roles, how she speaks four languages (English, Luo, Spanish, and Swahili) and how she's doing her part to save the planet through her job as Global Elephant Ambassador for WildAid. If you remember, the 12 Years A Slave and Star Wars actor once dated Somalian MC K'Naan. Maybe Nyong'o learned some rapping skills from him during their relationship.

Nyong'o is riding high after starring in the new film Queen of Katwe. According to its Facebook page, the Disney movie is "the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion."

The film dropped on Sept. 23, so head to your nearest movie theater to check it out. You can view the Instagram video above via Nyong'o's official account.
