Count Mistah FAB, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Killer Mike and Diamond D among rap notables who headed to Atlanta’s Opera nightclub on Tuesday night (November 3) to witness a phenomenal night for hip-hop culture; the RedBull Big Tune Finals.

Last night’s events concluded a yearlong series of qualifying battles across the country between up-and-coming producers fighting for the right to be among 16 finalists to grace the stage in the ATL. Add new Big Tune champion, 26-year-old Frank Dukes, to the list of Toronto natives (Drake, Kardinal Offishall, Lil X) holding down hip-hop for Canada.

Midway through the four round competition, fans were treated to a face-off between producers Just Blaze and Alchemist (pitting hits like Jay-Z’s “PSA” and T.I.’s “Live Your Life” against Jadakiss’ “We Gon’ Make It” and Prodigy’s “Keep It Thoro”) that proved MCs get more than just a little backup from the folks crafting their tracks. [Watch below] The competition between the two beatmakers, who are also friends, was part of an evening that also included beat exhibitions from Denaun Porter (D12, Eminem, Dr. Dre) and Tha Bizness (50 Cent, Young Money) and a half-hour-long set from Jadakiss to close the night.

Last year’s Big Tune winner, C-Sick, who has collaborated with Nas since claiming the title, was also in the building. Those present to witness the event have Seattle Rock Steady DJ DV One, program director Jonathan Moore and producers Vitamin D and Jake One to thank for putting on another great event.
