Juelz Santana Arrested on Drug and Weapon Charges After Fleeing From Airport Security
Juelz Santana's run from the police didn't last long after The Diplomats rapper turned himself in to authorities.
According to a report from TMZ, Juelz was arrested by Port Authority Newark Airport police on Monday (March 12) at 1 a.m. after he surrendered to cops. The rapper was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Santana was also booked on an unspecified federal warrant.
The incident with Juelz occurred on March 9 at the Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, N.J.. According to reports, the Dipset rapper was trying to catch a flight when his bag was flagged during a screening. When a gun was discovered in his belongings, Juelz allegedly did the race and ran from the airport, possibly hailing a cab before he could be stopped.
Santana has had his problems with the law in the past. In 2011, the rapper was arrested on narcotics and weapons charges after policed raided his Santana's World studio, where they discovered two fully loaded handguns, marijuana and ammunition.
Two years later, Juelz was sentenced to two years probation in an unrelated case when a neighbor accused him of making death threats after they tried to intervene in a fight the rapper was having with his girlfriend.
While it's uncertain what type of punishment the rapper will now be facing, bringing a firearm through an airport security checkpoint can carry a fine of up to $10,000. The rapper also joins the long list of hip-hop artists who have been caught with a weapon at an airport.
