Joe Budden Thinks Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” Verse Was Good For Hip-Hop

In the immediate aftermath of Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse, New York/New Jersey rapper Joe Budden was amongst the many East Coast rappers to respond to Kendrick's controversial "King Of New York" claim in his verse. On his "Control" response Budden rapped "This ain’t at Kendrick Lamar/The n—a Kendrick got bars/I heard his s–t and wasn’t offended at all," seemingly indicating that he was not mad at Kendrick for his verse on the song.

In a recent interview with Hot 97, Budden seemingly reiterated his non-offended stance on "Control" and stated that he believed that Kendrick's verse was good for hip-hop culture.

"That week in Hip Hop felt good for me," Budden said. "To see people get inspired to really step their pen game up, to see people tweet like, 'Yo, I was on some bullshit before.' We knew that already...But that was good. It was a good week in Hip Hop."

During his appearance, Budden also offered insight into the next album of his group, Slaughterhouse, that is coming down the pike in the near future.

"The Slaughterhouse album is great," the New Jersey rapper said. "It's much better than the shit we did last time... I won't call it shit. That was a figure of speech, but it's much better music. It's the best music we've ever made by far. That's not just how rappers say that. This is by far our best project."

Also in the interview, he revealed that Slaughterhouse was planning to collaborate with Queens rapper Action Bronson on their next album, spoke about his own "Control" response and dished the details about his popular VH1 reality show, Love & Hip Hop.
