Hip-Hop is the most listened to genre in the world, according to Spotify. The music streaming website has put together a live "musical map of the world," which analyzes about 20 millions songs in order to show listening trends in over 1,000 cities across the world.

The map is updated on a bi-weekly basis and users can click anywhere on the map to listen to a playlist from that region. It is based on music that is "distinctive" to each area. Based on the data, listeners tend to bump musicians from their own areas. London listeners frequent Jamie XX's new album, while Philadelphia natives tend to play a lot of Meek Mill. Spotify's findings also suggest that hip-hop is the most favored genre no matter where you go, with users adding these kinds of songs to their playlists more than any other genre of music. Hip-Hop held the title last year as well.

Kendrick Lamar and Drake have a lot to do with hip-hop's lead. K-Dot's To Pimp a Butterfly broke the record for the most streams in a single day, coming in at 9.8 million back in March. As for Drake, his If You're Readying This, It's Too Late project previously held the record, with users streaming the mixtape a total of 6.8 million times after its release in February. As hip-hop artists continue to partner with the mega streaming service, we may see the genre continue to lead with a number of highly anticipated albums dropping this summer.
