Today, May 16, is the 29th birthday of rising Brooklyn rap star Phresher.

The New York rapper, whose real name is Kashaun Rameek Rutling, was born in 1989 in the B.K. neighborhood of Brownsville. Although he grew up as an athlete and pursued football in school, he eventually started to pursue his rap career when he was 21 years old. While he was tackling his music career, Phresher worked as a paraprofessional in New York City public schools.

After writing music for years, with majority of songs never being publicly released, Phresher reached his big break in 2016. The young artist dropped his "Wait a Minute" smash hit single that summer, which eventually got the remix treatment from 50 Cent and Remy Ma. A new version performed by Royce Da 5'9" helped Phresher receive attention from Eminem, who recruited the buzzing rapper for his Revival album in 2017, making him the only rap guest feature on the project.

Last year, he also dropped off  his Wait a Minute EP, which contained six total songs. Between his Marshall Mathers guest spot and the project, Phresher has been able to catapult his popularity in the music game, and now has records under his belts with the likes of Desiigner, Cardi B, Jim Jones, Don Q, Papoose and others.

Most recently, Phresher has made his return to the solo spotlight with his new single, "Like Dis," which arrived at the end of April. Fans are currently awaiting updates on his next highly-anticipated album PH, which is due out sometime later this year.

Happy birthday, Phresher!
