Drake and Rihanna Are No Longer Friends
From song collaborations to romance, Drake and Rihanna have had their fair share of chemistry both on record and off. Their history is well-documented, but it looks like Drizzy and RiRi are no longer friends these days.
In an interview with Vogue today (May 3), Rihanna opened up about a number of topics, including her past with Drake. The singer admitted that she and her former love interest are no longer close and recalled the memorable praise-filled introduction he gave her at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards as “uncomfortable.”
When Drake presented the Grammy-winner songstress with MTV’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award two years ago at the awards ceremony, he declared, “I’ve loved her since I was 22 years old. She’s someone I’ve looked up to my entire adult life, even though she’s younger than me.”
Though Rihanna would make a surprise appearance at Drake’s sold-out concert in Miami days later—and thank Drake on Instagram for his “touching” speech, writing “I love you for that!”—her memory of the moment isn't as sweet. “The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal,” she said. “Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast.”
Don't expect these two to be appearing on a new record anytime soon. When it comes to their friendship, they've gone their separate ways. “We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.”
The chart-topping singer is focused on her new relationship, but is keeping his identity a secret. Rihanna is excited to be spending time with her new man. “I used to feel guilty about taking personal time, but I also think I never met someone who was worth it before,” she explained.
