DJ Reach took to the wheels of steel on Friday night (August 3)—which also happened to be his birthday—at New York City’s PH-D Rooftop Lounge to spin the latest and greatest tunes for the capacity crowd. Little did he know that he’d receive a helping hand—from none other than Kanye West, who proceeded to move and shock the crowd by playing 20-25 new tracks, XXL has learned in this exclusive.

Reach told XXL that Yeezy made his entrance into PH-D at around 1:00 a.m., wearing jeans, a black leather shirt and a pair of black Air Yeezy kicks. He also had on a Cartier bracelet—one that Reach says “you have to screw in” and once “they put it on you, you have to go into the store to take it off.” The popular DJ says the Louis Vuitton Don was accompanied by actor extraordinaire Leonardo DiCaprio. After chilling in the cut for a minute, Reach says that Kanye made his way up to the DJ booth, which is elevated above the crowd.

“Kanye told me, ‘Yo, I’m feeling it,’” Reach exclusively told XXL. “‘I want to throw on some of my new shit. Can I go get my laptop?’ I thought he was going to jump on and play some classics or whatever, but when he said he’s going to play his own shit, I was like, ‘Please…do that!’”

Then, at around 1:45 a.m., Reach says Kanye started unleashing several new cuts, but only playing the instrumentals.

“The first song he played had that Stardust ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ sample in it and the drums were bananas and he let the sample breathe…[singing] ‘I feel like the music feels better with you,’” said an enthusiastic Reach, whose friendship with Kanye dates back to before Yeezy was in promotion of his College Dropout album in 2004, having even deejayed for his Glow In The Dark Tour after party. “It reminded me of some Watch the Throne shit.

“The whole time the crowd is going crazy—throwing their hands in the air, staring, dancing,” he added.

Reach said that Yeezy went on to play several more instrumentals—none more than 90 seconds with some having “an electro, housey, Skrillex feel to ’em"—before throwing the one record on that actually contained lyrics.

That would be “Perfect Bitch,” which Kanye confirmed via his Twitter on Tuesday (August 7).

“I wrote the song Perfect Bitch about Kim,” Yeezy tweeted, referencing his girlfriend Kim Kardashian.

Reach remembers the exact moment Friday night, when West dropped the record.

“I heard the beginning to ‘Hate Me Now’ and I thought he was gonna drop Nas’s shit, but in the words he started mouthing the words, “My perfect bitch, my perfect bitch” instead of ‘Hate Me Now,’” Reach added. “He said something to the effect of, ‘You know I always gotta have a bad chick.’ That was his only track with words. He played 20-25 tracks, no joke. Instrumentals, no words.”

It’s unclear if “Perfect Bitch” and the instrumentals Yeezy played, for about 45 minutes straight according to Reach, are for G.O.O.D. Music’s upcoming compilation LP, Cruel Summer.—Mark Lelinwalla
