Childish Gambino Debuts New Songs “Saturday” and “This Is America” on ‘SNL’
Childish Gambino was all over the place on Saturday night (May 5) on Saturday Night Live, both performing and hosting the show. The Atlanta creator didn't disappoint as he broke out two new tracks, debuted a music video and performed in multiple skits.
He started the party off with a memorable monologue where he mentions being turned down for a job at SNL twice. As far as music goes, he blessed the crowd with a soulful new ditty titled "Saturday." Performing on a stage full of people enjoying a kickback, Glover sings about making it to the weekend. "God, this 9 to 5 just keep on killing me/I wanna leave this place like all the time," he croons. "Talking to my boss, he just can't feel the dream/Sit back just let me blow your mind."
He wasn't done there. He returned to give the crowd another new track titled "This Is America." That track has more serious undertones, with Gambino rhyming about the scope of life in the States.
Gambino later debuted a striking music video for the "This Is America" song which is directed by his longtime collaborator Hiro Murai. It turns out the song contains ad-libs from 21 Savage, BlocBoy JB, Slim Jxmmi, Quavo and Young Thug.
