Atlanta is arguably the hottest new show out, and the numbers don't lie: Childish Gambino's FX creation had the best cable comedy debut since 2013.

The first episode drew 1.8 million total viewers and 1.2 million telecast viewers in the viewers under 50 demographic, according to Vulture. The second figure makes Atlanta's first episode the most-watched debut for any cable comedy since 2013′s Inside Amy Schumer.

In January, Glover spoke with Deadline about his choice to film the show in ATL. He says, “I know it’s going to be very easy for people to say ‘It’s a black Mecca,’ and it is, but I just think that it’s the most American place. Everybody there is like ‘Yo, I got a verse.’ Everybody is trying to make something from nothing. I believe everybody has a situation, and I wanted to show real people in real situations… I wanted to make it a regional thing.”

The show has been an instant success amongst those watching, incorporating both comedy and social commentary in an even-handed way. Plus the soundtrack boasts rappers as wide-ranging as OJ Da Juiceman, Shabazz Palaces and Kodak Black.

Atlanta airs every Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST on FX. The first season consists of 10 episodes.
