In September 2017, two men where indicted for the murder of New Orleans rapper BTY YoungN, but now, the charges against the two have been dismissed.

According to a report from NOLA.com, court records show the murder charges against Darryl Bannister Jr. and Kyron Williams were dismissed on Feb. 23. "Based upon the totality of evidence available, we decided it was not prudent to proceed to trial at this time," said Ken Daley, a spokesman for District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro's office.

At the time of the indictment, authorities were able to link Bannister to the killing after his cellphone was found at the scene of the murder. Bannister maintained his innocence, telling authorities his phone had been stolen at a party before the shooting took place. Police did acknowledge that another person's DNA was on the phone.

Born, Desmone Jerome, BTY YoungN was shot dead on April 29 at a Shell gas station in the Hollygrove section of New Orleans, just days before a scheduled meeting with a lawyer to discuss a deal with Cash Money Records. The rapper's body was discovered with multiple bullet wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 27 years old.

Following BTY YoungN's death, his mother claimed he was murdered over jealousy. "Jealousy is behind it," she said. "Because of his success as a rapper. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. He loved kids to death. It’s just rough.”

Daley added that investigation into the rapper's murder "remains open and ongoing."
