Over the weekend (April 29), rising rapper BTY YoungN was shot and killed in his home city of New Orleans at a local gas station, leaving loved ones and fans to seek answers over the horrific news. While authorities are currently investigating to find any suspects or potential motives, the Rich Gang signee's mother seems to have some theories as to why he was tragically killed.

While speaking to The Advocate about the heartbreaking death of her 27-year-old son, whose real name is Desmone Jerome, his mother, Gabrielle Jerome, said his life was taken over jealousy. "Jealousy is behind it. Because of his success as a rapper," she explained. While she didn't speak out on who she specifically believes could be behind the shooting, Jerome kept the focus of the conversation on YoungN's character as a good person. "He would literally give you the shirt off his back. He loved kids to death. It’s just rough," she described.

His family is taking the news of the rapper's death hard, as he is survived by many members, including a six-week-old son named Desmone Jerome, Jr., as well as seven brothers on his father's side and an 18-year-old sister on her side.

Police says BTY YoungN was killed on Saturday at around 11 p.m. at a Shell gas station on the 9200 block of Airline Highway. Authorities discovered him with multiple bullet wounds, and was pronounced dead on the scene. Police are looking for any leads on the incident, and the rapper's Facebook page has asked any fans or followers to share leads with the Crime Stoppers of Greater New Orleans.

If you recall, the young MC rose to success after he was signed to Birdman's Rich Gang imprint on Cash Money last year following his work with Juvenile for his Cocky & Confident album in 2009.

While he will be missed, we're sure his musical legacy will carry on through fans and loved ones.
