Black Eyed Peas “Back 2 HipHop” Video Featuring Nas: Watch Homage to Rap’s Golden Era
Keeping true to the song's title, the motion graphic visual pays homage to hip-hop's Golden Era as BEP lead Will.i.am dons thick rope chains, a bucket hat and an adidas track suit, with his counterparts apl.de.ap and Taboo in equally fitting attire. Directed by Pasha Shapiro and based on a concept by Will.i.am, the trippy music video takes on an ancient Egypt meets outer-space theme, with Nas appearing as The Great Sphinx of Giza.
"I'm the emperor, I'm Caesar/Can somebody tell me where the MCs are?" Will.i.am questions in his opening verse for the song itself. "I violate over guitars, annihilate and operate like I'm on ER/Lyrically gang bang 'cause I'm behind bars."
Nas closes out the track with his lyrical prowess as he paints a picture of what happens to those who cross him, spitting, "Hat low in a Regal, cracks all in that diesel/Pack corners, gat pointed at people, know I beef dude/Can't afford a funeral never/Mortician have your man face lookin' like leather."
The group will appear on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Wednesday, Dec. 19 to perform the song live. Should be dope.
"Back 2 HipHop" appears on the Black Eyed Peas' latest album, Masters of the Sun Vol. 1, which was released this past fall. In addition to Nas, other features on the 12-track project include De La Soul's Posdnuos, Slick Rick, Nicole Scherzinger and Ali Shaheed Muhammad and the late Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest.
