Patience is a virtue that is often lacking in artists and musicians of today, but remains an invaluable trait and is one that is often required to reach long-term success. One rapper that understands this better than most is Stalley, who has spent much of the last decade building his brand while biding his time waiting for the proper opportunity to shine.
First coming to prominence during the era of the blog explosion, Stalley would quickly find himself on the forefront of the wave of online favorites turned stars-in-waiting, much off the strength of a standout guest spot on Curren$y's Pilot Talk album, as well as his breakout 2011 mixtape, Lincoln Way Nights. Sporting an everyman sensibility and an eclectic rhyme style unique to itself, Stalley would pique the interest of rap star and mogul Rick Ross, who recruited the bearded spitter to become a part of his Maybach Music Group stable, joining the likes of fellow new jacks Wale and Meek Mill as the foundation of the burgeoning movement.
Making his presence felt via appearances on MMG's Self Made compilation series, Stalley would eventually get to take center stage with the release of his debut album, Ohio, in 2014, which saw him dropping poetic flows alongside tenured veterans like Rick Ross and De La Soul, as well as fresher faces like Ty Dolla $ign, Nipsey Hussle, and August Alsina.
Building on that momentum with a pair of mixtapes, 2015's The Laughing Introvert and 2016's last year's Saving Yusuf, Stalley has been on a tear throughout 2017, with his most last release, New Wave, finding the Mid-Western spitter asserting himself following his departure from Maybach Music Group. Deciding to keep striking while the iron is hot, Stalley has returned with another EP, titled Tell the Truth: Shame The Devil, which finds the Ohio rep sounding rejuvenated and rhyming with a renewed purpose.
