B.o.B is one of the more musical rappers currently roaming hip-hop.

And Bobby Ray expressed that explicitly via a live performance in front of a few hundred industry supporters (which included Atlantic Records execs Julie Greenwald and Michael Keyer, Roc Nation's John Meneilly, Power 105 on-air personality Angela Yee, and more) and  and fans that packed into the posh Tribeca Rooftop in New York City on Tuesday night (May 1) for the MC’s Strange Clouds album release party. The sophomore LP hit stores the same day.

Hosted by MTV/Shade 45's Sway and backed by Target, with whom B.o.B’s Strange Clouds Deluxe Edition (with five bonus songs) is exclusively available in, Bobby Ray took the stage last night with a live band behind him.

To celebrate the release of his sophomore set, B.o.B performed a mixed bag of undeniable past hits and newer material off Strange Clouds.

The Atlanta rapper performed “Nothin’ On You” and “Airplanes,” two certified smash singles that helped B.o.B become a household name off his first album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, two years back. He even brought out special guest Playboy Tre for a energetic rendition of  “Bet I.”

For “Play The Guitar,” Bobby did just that, picking up the instrument and at one point, battling two band members, who were also playing the guitar. Throughout his set, B.o.B kept referencing two artists, who were painting a mural offstage while he was performing. That was just one of the many stops Target rolled out for the MC. Others included giant-inflated spheres floating overhead, a huge projection screen over the stage and longtime MTV personality, Sway, who played hosting duties.

Back on stage, Bobby tore through new material off Strange Clouds, including the moving “So Hard to Breathe” and “So Good,” before closing out the show with a performance of the album’s title track, “Strange Clouds.”

In promotion of his new album, B.o.B has made stops at BET’s 106 & Park and The View in recent days.—Mark Lelinwalla
