Ari Melber Uses Mobb Deep Lyrics to Call out President Trump

The homie Ari Melber is at it again. This time, the MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent and unabashed hip-hop head used lyrics from Mobb Deep’s classic cut “Shook Ones Part II” during a monologue on his show, The Beat With Melber, about President Trump on Friday night (March 2).

The reference came up when Melber was discussing Trump abusing executive privilege and how it compares to Nixon's impeachment due to the Watergate Scandal. “[Nixon’s impeachment case is] worth bearing in mind as the Trump White House now stonewalls investigators, but insist it’s not really invoking executive privilege, or it’s trying some kind of modified halfway executive privilege,” Melber said.

He added, “But there’s no such thing as halfway privilege, just as there’s no such thing as halfway crooks. We know that truth from the great poet Havoc of Mobb Deep who observed that true criminal minds are always thirsty for recognition. But you don’t see longevity from halfway crooks, ‘cause they always end up shook. And that’s the big problem facing any White House pursuing a cover up with halfway privilege.”

Havoc caught wind of the shout out and posted it to his Instagram account. "Just as I was watching the homie @arimelber couldn’t be put any better!! Ain’t no such thing as #halfwaycrooks 🔥 #msnbc," he captioned the clip.

Melber is not new to using hip-hop to express his views, previously quoting lines from 50 Cent, Jay-Z and others. "The first rule of hip-hop is probably keep it real," he told XXL last year about his shtick. "And that can mean a lot of different things, but that's certainly important in reporting and storytelling. I think you get more credit for being real and honest instead of trying to be cool or always be the smartest person in the room."
